The William C. Byrd Young Artist Competition is held at the J. Dallas Dort Music Center on the first Saturday of March each year. Auditions are held from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (may vary) and are open to the public at no cost. Five finalists are selected to compete during the evening of the same day beginning at 7:00 p.m. The finals are free and open to the public. The auditions and finals are located in the MacAuthur Recital Hall.
There is a Byrd Dinner at 5:30 p.m. in the Atrium of the J. Dallas Dort Music Center. The contestants and their accompanists are the guests of the St. Cecilia Society of Flint, Michigan. However, the public may attend by paying a fee to the St. Cecilia Society, c/o Flint Institute of Music, 1025 E. Kearsley St., Flint, MI 48503. Reservations are required a week in advance. More information will be available on the Byrd Competition Facebook site in January, 2025.
Following the finals, there is a reception in the Anderson Room which is free to all who attend.
